Magic
Magic is the practice of harnessing the spirit energy that exists and flows through the universe, which allows practitioners known as magicians to manipulate aspects of reality through the application of spells. Magic encompasses many different activities including astral projection, telekinesis, teleportation and spell casting. It is widely used by both humans and monsters.
Magic is fueled by the mana in the user’s body. This energy is naturally existing and flowing in the environment and within everyone. Due to this, its common knowledge that everyone is able to use magic to some extent, though some people are more adept at it than others.
All kinds of magic are used in Terra, and they can be used for many purposes such as offense, defense, supporting, and healing, as well as other, more practical purposes. Magic is used by exerting mana in a wide variety of spells or by focusing it into an external source. Training in body and mind is necessary in order to properly use magic, as using too much is akin to overexertion and causes the mage to suffer from exhaustion.
Monster magic looks very similar to human magic-to the extent that many people make no distinction-but the underlying energies are notably different in a few important ways. Human magic is typically performed by way of very complex spell casting. It almost has a scientific basis for its applications, taking into account personal and surrounding circumstances in the spells they wish to cast. Monsters, being stronger than humans both physically and spiritually, possess great magic in their own right, which is mainly used in the pursuit of a mate or increasing their pleasure. They don’t require the complexity of human spellcasting to perform magic. For most monster species, magic comes naturally, almost like breathing. Baphomets and Dark Mages are most adept in magic, considered to be the most powerful magic users amongst the monster race.
Elementalism
Elementalism is the use of elemental magic by a covenanter. The four great elementals: ignis, undines, sylphs and gnomes are manifestations of the power of nature, and as such, hold power over the natural forces for fire, water, air and earth. On their own, elementals can exert only passive effects on the environment, but by associating themselves with a mortal covenanter, they become a duo capable of powerful magical spells. There are various organizations in Terra which hold differing views on the nature and purpose of elemental magic.
